BALTIMORE, June 7 -- Constellation Energy (NYSE: CEG) today announced that its subsidiary, Constellation Energy Projects & Services Group (CEPS), has been awarded a State of Maryland Indefinite Delivery Contract (IDC) by the Maryland Department of General Services (DGS).
This two-year designation allows CEPS to provide services to state agencies and local governments throughout Maryland by implementing energy- and cost-saving technologies that do not require additional money from capital or expense budgets. Additionally, as government agencies take steps beyond these traditional energy conservation measures, Constellation Energy is in an excellent position to assist with its extensive experience in renewable technologies, including solar, biomass and geothermal.
"Since 1995, Maryland's energy performance contracts have created savings of almost $400 million," said DGS Secretary Alvin C. Collins. "By taking advantage of guaranteed energy-performance contracting, the State improves the energy efficiency of its building operations, saves energy, saves money, and has a positive impact on the environment."
Under this contract, Constellation Energy has successfully worked with a number of state clients, including Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC), which was the first local or municipal government agency to sign a contract through the state's process. This business partnership has resulted in significant operational cost savings, the incorporation of renewable energy in the form of wind power and projected energy savings of more than $20 million over the term of the project.
"Constellation Energy will identify cost-saving and environmentally friendly energy-related solutions that will significantly reduce utility, operations and maintenance expenses for clients under this contract," said Greg Jarosinski, president of CEPS. "WSSC is a wonderful example of the success and flexibility this contract allows Constellation Energy to bring to our customers in today's competitive marketplace."
Headquartered in Maryland, Constellation Energy will use Maryland-based firms to provide technical and construction subcontracting services for agencies within the state.
Under the IDC, Constellation Energy will offer a full range of energy efficiency consulting, including the initial site audits/surveys, presentation of saving opportunities, financing, project implementation and maintenance services. Types of equipment targeted during the audits are heating, air conditioning, controls and lighting.
